Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has addressed fresh links with the England job, after the Football Association announced an interim appointment.
The 53-year-old is out of contract with Manchester City at the end of the upcoming 2024/25 campaign, having signed three previous contract extensions at the Etihad Stadium since arriving from Bayern Munich in 2016.
Guardiola is preparing to embark on his ninth season with Manchester City, and could win six trophies in east Manchester over the course of the new campaign, with the Sky Blues set to compete in expanded versions of both the UEFA Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup.
Manchester City will also be bidding to win an unprecedented fifth consecutive Premier League title this season, after lifting the trophy for a record-breaking fourth successive season in May, following a 3-1 win over West Ham at the Etihad Stadium.
Guardiola has remained coy on his future beyond the current season, and has been linked with the vacant England job, following the resignation of Gareth Southgate after the European Championship final defeat to Spain last month.
The Football Association have announced that Lee Carsley will take interim charge of the Three Lions for upcoming fixtures in September, as the search for a new head coach continues.
Guardiola has previously been linked with an international management role, with Brazil having famously taken steps to try and appoint the Catalonian coach.
Speaking ahead of an FA Community Shield clash against Manchester United this weekend about the latest rumours, Guardiola said: “I have to decide what I want to do with my life, stay here, take a break, national team. But right now I am here and fully excited for the season.”
England’s next international tournament is the FIFA World Cup in the summer of 2026, with Guardiola’s Manchester City contract expiring in 2025, one year prior to the tournament.
