Erling Haaland goals and stats: Record-breaking Norwegian set for more success with Man City

Erling Haaland holds the record for the most goals scored in a single Premier League season, having netted 36 in 2022/23.

And it’s a record that, incredibly, he broke in his first season in the league.

What is perhaps most frightening about the striker is that he is still just 24 years old – and he already looks set to go down in the history books.

The 2023 Ballon d’Or runner-up has already demolished a number of records across numerous leagues in Europe and has won eight major trophies so far.

Haaland is fresh off the back of another hugely successful season with Manchester City which saw them win their fourth successive Premier League title.

His goal return last term was lower than his first after some injury issues, but still won him the Golden Boot with an impressive 27.

Here is a full breakdown of Erling Haaland’s career record…

Early career

Perhaps destined for football greatness, Haaland was born in Leeds as his father, Alfie Haaland, was playing as a defender for Leeds United at the time.

But he moved back to his Norwegian hometown with his family before long, joining the academy of Bryne at the age of five.

Bryne

Haaland made his senior debut for the club when he was just 15 years old, having already starred in the reserve team for some months.

It is shocking to imagine now that we know what the striker is capable of, but he failed to score at all during his breakout season at Bryne.

He had been initially deployed as a winger by his manager, he was also put into the central striker role – but could not make an impact there either.

His time at Bryne came to an end in 2017 when he was signed by another Norwegian club, Molde.

Mold

Haaland played under a familiar managerial name whilst at Molde: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

And he fared much better when it came to scoring goals at his new club.

After scoring on his debut, he finished his first season at the club having racked up a total of four goals in 20 appearances but went on to better than in his second season there.

He ended the 2018/19 season as Molde’s top goalscorer with a total of 16 goals in 30 matches.

Red Bull Salzbur

Haaland would bid farewell to his home country with his next move as he was signed by Austrian club Red Bull Salzburg in 2019.

He may have only spent one season at the Austrian Bundesliga club, but he certainly made an impact – particularly in their Champions League campaign.

He joined an elite club which included the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski by becoming one of the only players to have scored in the first five matches of a Champions League group stage.

When he left Salzburg, he departed with an incredible record which had seen him score 29 goals in 27 appearances – a statistic which had attracted all kinds of attention.

Borussia Dortmund

Dortmund fended off interest from Manchester United and Juventus to secure Haaland as a signing in December 2019, for a fee of around £18million.

And he more than proved his worth while at the German club.

Among the individual accolades he picked up were four Bundesliga Player of the Month awards, a Bundesliga Goal of the Month and the 2020/21 award for Bundesliga Player of the Season.

He also helped his side to the German League Cup in the 2020/21 season.

Haaland struggled with a hamstring injury and a hip flexor injury during his final season at Dortmund – but he still made it to 50 Bundesliga goals overall before he left.

He also became the youngest player to achieve the feat at 21 years old.

Manchester City

Man City pulled off a sensational deal in the summer of 2022 when they activated Haaland’s £51m release clause.

The Norwegian has never really looked back since joining the Premier League side.

In his first season at the club, he not only proved instrumental as his side clinched a historic continental treble, but he also earned the Premier League Golden Boot and the European Golden Shoe.

His 36 Premier League goals in 35 appearances also set a new record for the highest number of goals scored in any Premier League season.

The fact that Haaland’s second season at Man City was seen by some as a quiet one for the striker is testament to just how prolific he has been.

Not to mention, he missed nearly two months of the season whilst recovering from a foot injury.

After all, he still retained the Golden Boot with an impressive 27 goals and he had already become the fastest Premier League player to reach 50 goal involvements earlier in the season.

Still just 24, he is undoubtedly set for many more years of goal-scoring brilliance at City and at wherever he may end up in the future.

Norway

If there is perhaps one area in which Haaland might wish for greater success in the future, it would be with his national team.

Three Lions fans might lament the fact that the Leeds-born striker turned down the prospect of playing for England.

But shockingly, the forward has never yet featured at a major tournament with Norway failing to qualify for the Euros and the World Cups during his time on the team.

In spite of this, Haaland has already put himself just three goals behind Norway’s all-time top goalscorer Jorgen Juve.

He will already have his sights set on qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, but Norway’s prospects in recent years have not looked great.

For the sake of global football, there will be so many desperate for that to change so that a striker of such quality can make it onto the international stage at some point.
