Erling Haaland has completely transformed the Premier League since joining Manchester City at the beginning of the 2022/23 season.
The Norwegian colossus was expected to adapt quickly to English football, but he blew even the most optimistic Man City supporter’s expectations out of the water. He claimed the Golden Boot during his debut campaign as he clinched a famous treble in Manchester and was electric last season, too.
The striker’s Fantasy Premier League price ahead of the 2024/25 season reflects the ease in which he has obliterated opposition centre-backs. Haaland is now so expensive that there are genuine question marks over whether the relentless sharpshooter is worth the expenditure.

Following two incredible campaigns, a mass of trophies and a ludicrous number of hat-tricks, Haaland is officially the most expensive player in FPL history. The forward will set managers back a bank-breaking £15m, meaning he is £1m more expensive than he was at the start of last season.
That makes him easily the most expensive forward in the game this year – a remarkable £6m pricier than next in line Ollie Watkins – and will cost more than the game’s second-most expensive player, Mohamed Salah (£12.5m).
Haaland’s price means his ownership is likely to drop from last season. He finished the campaign in 73% of squads, which was 21% more than any other player, but a £15m price tag for 2024/25 means that owning the striker will take up almost a fifth of each manager’s budget. As a result, the average price managers can afford for the remaining 14 players they need to pick is just £6.1m.

Haaland’s 2023/24 campaign was not quite as impressive as his debut season at the Etihad. In 2022/23 he scored an astonishing 36 goals in 35 matches, earning a staggering 272 points in the process. His goal tally dropped to 27 in the league last term, but he still managed 212 points in total.
He may have won the Golden Boot again last season but he was only the fifth highest-scoring FPL player, sitting behind Cole Palmer (244), Phil Foden (230), Ollie Watkins (228) and Bukayo Saka (226). He actually only scored four more points than Tottenham’s Son Heung-min (213).
So, why the price hike? Well, FPL have likely boosted his value in an attempt to disrupt his ownership and force managers to look for alternative options. After all, very few teams didn’t feature Haaland last season, with the Norway international almost always earning the captain’s armband.
However, leaving Haaland out of your side is a mighty risk. He’s a points machine and has proven that over two successive campaigns, while his opening four fixtures are an attractive proposition. Champions Man City face Chelsea (A), Ipswich Town (H), West Ham United (A) and Brentford (H) in the first few weeks.
