Rodri is inarguably one of Manchester City’s most important players.
Since arriving at the Etihad Stadium back in 2019, the midfielder has gone on to make 257 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side across all competitions, making at least 33 appearances in each Premier League campaign he’s played in.
Back in April, it was reported by The Sun that City are looking to offer the Spaniard a lucrative new deal to keep him at the club beyond 2027 when his current contract ends.
With the 28-year-old preparing to face off against three of his City teammates in this weekend’s European Championship final between Spain and England, the midfielder has spoken about his future at the Manchester club.
Rodri addresses Man City future
Speaking in a recent interview with AS, Rodri had this to say about his future and his current situation with City when asked if he could ever make a return to Spain.
He said: “I try to analyse all the decisions I make, to have a criterion. And, above all, to go through the processes.
“I am very, very happy in England. I think I am in one of the best clubs in the world, that is obvious, and I am happy. I have a three-year contract and, when the time comes, I will see.
“But I have said it before with regard to the short term. I do not like or it does not make much sense to look at the long term.
“Spain is my country, Madrid is my city, at home. And well, when I went to Manchester, I remember a conversation I had with my parents in which they asked me if I was sure because I was going to another country, another culture. And, in the end, one is happy when one is sure of things.
“If I return, it would be with conviction.”
A new contract for Rodri would be great news for City
With City only losing the three Premier League games that Rodri missed through suspension last season, this makes it easy to see why Andy Townsend said that he is irreplaceable for the Citizens.
Now that the midfielder has highlighted how happy he is at the Manchester club, this should delight a lot of fans and give them hope that he could sign a new reported deal in the near future.
Taking into account how vital Rodri is for the Blues, tying him down to a new contract would undoubtedly be great news for the club and the supporters.
