Rio Ferdinand made a claim about Phil Foden after his sparkling showing for England in their 2-1 win against the Netherlands in the semi-final of the European Championship.

The City attacker put in a lively display that would leave him in perfect stead ahead of Sunday night — with Gareth Southgate’s side set to face Spain in the final of Euro 2024.

Two of them were Foden and Kobbie Mainoo, as their partnership in midfield for England was praised by Rio Ferdinand on X during the first 45 against the Netherlands.

On FIVE’s official YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand continued to praise the displays of Foden and Mainoo after England beat the Netherlands.

As Rio Ferdinand pointed out, Foden and Mainoo looked completely in sync and perhaps the two best players on the pitch for England against the Netherlands.

It seemed like the Stockport-born duo fully understood each other’s games — constantly looking for each other during the first-half.

The Dutch seemed to have no idea how to tame their partnership as the pair’s technical excellent and footballing intelligence was on full display at the Signal Iduna Park.

Gareth Southgate will certainly be looking at how to ensure that Foden and Mainoo can strike up their burgeoning partnership against Spain.
