Scientists have discovered a work of large rocks arranged like the megalithic monument Stonehenge, but not in the UK, but at the bottom of Lake Michigan, USA. Although this work has been discovered since 2007, very few people know about its existence.
Underwater archeology professor Mark Hooley discovered this mysterious work when he and his colleague Brian Abbot explored the bottom of the lake using a sound transmitter. The initial hope was to find the wreck, but they did not expect to make the most miraculous discoveries in the past few decades.
This work is located about 12m below the surface of Lake Michigan and the rock formations are arranged close together in a straight line, not in a circle like the megalithic monument Stonehenge.
Professor Holley said about the experience of going to the bottom of the lake to explore this work: “Actually, when going to the bottom, it feels quite scary. There is something very mysterious and scary about this whole area. When you swim along the long line of prominent rocks at the bottom of the lake, you will feel it . ”
Currently, not many people know about the existence of this “Stonehenge megalithic monument at the bottom of Lake Michigan”. Maybe in part because the Native American community here also did not want many people to come and see the megalith.
However, the discovery of the megalith has puzzled scientists. One of the building’s rocks is said to feature an ancient mammoth, which is believed to have lived in the area more than 10,000 years ago.
Currently, this work is still located at the bottom of the lake, so it is not possible to draw an exact conclusion about the sculpture.
Professor Mark Hooley is trying to create computer models of the rock in the hope that it will help determine the origin of the painting. Retired restorer Charles Cleland, of the University of Michigan’s Department of Great Lakes archeology and ethnography, remains skeptical of the find and says such sculptures are extremely rare in the Upper Midwest in the country. America. Thus, this is a very valuable archaeological work.
Mr Cleland said: “However, I still think there is a need for further investigation into it. If we leave it alone without learning more about this mysterious structure, it will not be good . ”
Until now, stone works like the megalithic Stonehenge have not been tested and evaluated, but scientists emphasize that many other stone circles of similar size have been discovered around the area. lake. Compared with other locations around the globe, it will be found that similar findings are not uncommon, because there are hundreds of underwater structures scattered all over the Earth.
Now scientists are hypothesized that this area may have been a part of the mainland, inhabited by people. Ancient people who used to live by hunting in this area about 9,000 years ago built this megalithic monument before it sank to the bottom of the lake.
Of the five lakes in the Great Lakes region on the US-Canada border, Lake Michigan is the only one that lies entirely within the United States. It is also associated with many of the strangest things. Since the 15th century, in Lake Michigan, there have often been unexplained disappearances of ships and planes, occurring in a triangular area, known as “Michigan’s Bermuda triangle”.
