Former Manchester City player Frank Lampard knows what it takes to be a top midfielder.
In his playing career, the Englishman scored 267 goals, delivered 171 and won numerous domestic and European trophies across 896 senior club appearances.
The 46-year-old also has experience coaching players during managerial stints in charge of Derby County, Chelsea and Everton.
Now though, Lampard, who spent the 2014/15 season at the Etihad Stadium, has shared his thoughts on one current City midfielder and one specific attribute he has that puts him above most other players in the world right now.
Frank Lampard hails Kevin De Bruyne for his passing ability
In a recent video shared on the ESPN UK TikTok page, Lampard was tasked with building his ideal midfielder by selecting who he thinks the best past and present players are based on certain attributes.
These attributes included passing, work rate, vision, strength, skills, technique, football intelligence and finishing.
When asked to pick a midfielder he thinks has the best passing ability, Lampard picked Kevin De Bruyne.
De Bruyne is one of the best passers the Premier League has ever seen
Back in 2015, the Manchester club shelled out £54m to sign the Belgian from Wolfsburg.
Since then, the midfielder has supplied 170 assists and scored 102 goals in 352 appearances across all competitions.
Lampard isn’t the only person to hail the 33-year-old for his passing ability, as Phil Foden said back in April that De Bruyne can see passes others can’t.
With the Belgium international having the second-highest total of assists (112) in Premier League history, it comes as no surprise to us that Lampard has picked him for his passing ability.
Taking all of that into account, we feel that the City star is undoubtedly one of the best passers of the ball in world football right now and should be seen as one of the best overall midfielders in Premier League history.
