The bald eagle is one of the most majestic, iconic birds in existence. It’s a significant cultural symbol, and is the national bird of the United States.
Once in danger of extinction in the US, the species’ population has climbed back to healthy numbers in recent decades, but sometimes these eagles still need our help and protection.
That was the case recently, after one bald eagle was struck by a vehicle and a team of highway troopers came to its rescue.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol recently responded to a call about a bald eagle that had been struck by a vehicle in Cape County.
The bird was apparently injured, but troopers soon arrived and came to the rescue.
They brought the eagle to the Conservation Department, and it is expected to make a full recovery.
The story went viral, and many people were happy to hear that this national icon was going to be okay.
“You all go above and beyond to help everyone and everything,” one commenter wrote, praising the troopers. “Hope it is flying again soon.”
“Thank you for seeing that this magnificent bird is taken care of!” another wrote.
Bald eagles are a common, welcome sight in Missouri every year. According to the state’s tourism website, there are 175 active nests in Missouri, and it becomes an “eagle magnet” during the winter.
It turns out the eagles are drawn to the state because their locks, dams and power stations keep their rivers and lakes from freezing, and stun fish, making Missouri a perfect place to get a meal during the winter months.
Tourists in turn flock to the state to spot these majestic birds. And while sometimes our worlds collide and the eagles get injured, it’s good to know that there are people always willing to step up and give them a helping hand.
We’re so glad this bald eagle is safe now! Hope he’ll be back in the skies soon!
