Shelter staff weren’t sure if he’d even survive the weekend, but he’s still fighting
When the staff of the Humane Society of Kentucky found a puppy, it shivered with fear. He had been shoved into a box, which was taped shut with small holes poked in the top.
Then, he was left outside the shelter on the verge of death. As soon as someone found him, shelter staff and volunteers rushed to urge him medical aid. They weren’t sure if he’d even survive the weekend, but he’s still fighting for his life.
Followers acknowledged that his story is similar to Ethan’s, who is another malnourished dog that the humane society saved. Hopefully, this tiny pup will become as strong and healthy as Ethan too!
A staff member found the puppy after they picked up the items in the bent litter box .bin. Outside the shelter’s doors, there was a cardboard box that had the words “FOUND HELP ME” written thereon . The box was sealed shut with small air holes on top. When the staffer opened the box, they found an emaciated puppy with severe hair loss.
The poor puppy’s skin was inflamed, and the untreated infection caused the skin to swell. Most of his hair was missing, and instead, he was covered in bloody sores. He suffers from demodicosis and is malnourished. So, he was too weak to face on his own.
“We weren’t sure if he would make it past the weekend,” the Kentucky Humane Society wrote on Facebook.
The security video showed that someone left the puppy in the humanitarian society and then acted. It’s unclear if this person was the abuser or simply a sort stranger who was scared to be blamed for the puppy’s condition. Either way, that person hasn’t been identified.
Every day can be a miracle
The puppy is merely 15 pounds, but he already has his adult teeth. Shelter staff guesses he’s six to eight months old which he should weigh closer to 25 pounds. They think his growth is stunted thanks to insufficient nutrition. His system is also very weak, but they refuse to offer abreast of him. a day he survives may be a miracle.
“This puppy – whom we’ve not named yet – features a long road before him,” said the Kentucky Humane Society.
The shelter is a hospitable naming suggestion from followers. They believe that after the puppy has gone through everything, he deserves the most beautiful name. So far, his progress is small, but animal lovers will still do their best to provide him with the simplest life.
Like other shelters and rescue agencies, the Kentucky Humane Society relies on donations to pay for medical expenses and additional care. If you’d wish to help this puppy and other dogs like him, please consider donating.
