THE BIBLE’s Great Flood is one of the most famous narratives of the religious text, and “marine fossils“ found at the top of Mount Everest “may be“ proof that it happened, according to a sensational claim.

The flood narrative is found in chapters 6–9 of the Book of Genesis and the story tells of God’s decision to return Earth to its pre-creation state of watery chaos. Noah and his family are said to have been spared – along with two of every kind of animal – by floating a great ark. Genesis 7:18-19 states: “And the ark went upon the face of the waters. And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the Earth – and all the high mountains that were under the whole heaven were covered.”

Many have questioned the feasibility of the story, with one critic stating: “For the biblical flood to have happened, the water on Earth had to miraculously multiply by about 250 percent.”
Despite this, NASA has confirmed the presence of limestone and “ocean marine fossils” at the top of Mount Everest.
Watch Jerusalem, an analyst site that “seeks to show how current events are fulfilling the biblically prophesied description of the prevailing state of affairs of our day,” stated it is evidence that “the territory, at some point in Earth’s history, was covered with water”.
They stated: “If you were to entirely smooth everything on Earth, levelling mountains and filling in valleys and sea trenches, the sea would not only cover everything but the dry land would be submerged some 1.5 miles deep.

“So yes, there is enough water on Earth to cover the existing landmass – let alone by the seven meters the Bible says that Noah’s Flood prevailed above the highest peak.
“The question, then, must be asked: What are ancient fish doing atop Mount Everest? Is this evidence of the Flood? Maybe. Evidence of the physics, certainly.”
As NASA points out: “The presence of limestone and ocean marine fossils at the top of these mountains is one of the key pieces of evidence cited that advanced the idea of plate tectonics.”
This scientific theory describes the large chunks of the Earth’s surface moving over the molten rock in its core.
Watch Jerusalem analyst Christopher Eames noted: “The territory of India was once part of a supercontinent called Gondwanaland.

“Around 150 million years ago, it broke off and travelled north toward Laurasia.
“At that time, the huge Tethys Sea, flourishing with marine life, separated the continents.
“After journeying about 100 million years, the landforms collided with extreme force and intensity, forming the Himalayan mountain range — and thus, driving up the ‘mountain seabeds’ seen in the Himalayas.”
Continental drift was the hypothesis originally put forward over how the Earth’s continents have moved over geologic time relative to each other.
The speculation that continents might have “drifted” was first put forward by Abraham Ortelius in 1596.

The concept was independently and more fully developed by Alfred Wegener in 1912, but his hypothesis was rejected by many for lack of any motive mechanism.
This idea has since been subsumed by the theory of plate tectonics, which explains that the continents move by riding on plates of the Earth’s lithosphere.
Some believe this proves areas that are now dry may have once been covered in water.
Mr Eames said: “Continental drift has been used to explain the seabed-esque nature of the Himalayas.
“But really, rather than dismissing the biblical account, the mechanics serve only to support it.
“Continental drift demonstrates not only how catastrophic Earth-wide flooding can happen, it demonstrates that it did happen.”
In the early stages of development of the science of geology, fossils were interpreted as evidence of past flooding.

As modern geology developed, geologists found evidence of an ancient Earth, and evidence inconsistent with the notion that the Earth had developed in a series of cataclysms, like the Genesis flood.
By 1830 geologists increasingly found that evidence supported a series of local floods.
Proponents of flood geology hold to a literal reading of Genesis 6–9 and view its passages as historically accurate.
They use the Bible’s internal chronology to place the Genesis flood and the story of Noah’s Ark within the last 5,000 years.
Scientific dating of fossils has refuted this key argument of the narrative.
Flood geology contradicts the scientific consensus in geology, stratigraphy, geophysics, physics, palaeontology, biology, anthropology, and archaeology.
