The EUROS 2024 is a week away, and England is one of the favorites to win the tournament this summer. Their squad is stacked, and they have officially announced the 26-man squad that will play in EUROS to represent England. The 33-man provisional squad was cut to 26 players as manager Gareth Southgate removed James Maddison, Curtis Jones, Jarell Quansah, Harry Maguire, James Trafford, Jarrad Branthwaite, and Jack Grealish. Grealish missing out caught many fans off guard, and some believed it was the right decision. Manchester City and Pep Guardiola may feel relieved about this decision because Grealish could now rest properly this summer and prepare for the next season. Grealish was seen as one of the best players in the England squad, especially after the last couple of seasons, but this past awkward season with Man City has left him out of the main squad for the EUROS. It is a surprise since Grealish was involved in the last two major tournaments with England under Gareth Southgate.
Sky Sports reported that Grealish was even worried about this decision to happen and arrived at the England camp early that expected to prove that he was fit and ready for the tournament. Manchester City and Manchester United players had a day extra to rest since they played in the FA Cup final two weeks ago. The English winger did not impress this past season with Man City even though he earned a provisional squad call-up.
This season with Manchester City, Grealish played a total of 36 matches across all competitions. The English winger only registered three goals and three assists this season across all competitions. He was often not called up to the Man City team under Guardiola this season as his injuries have held him back to the level expected from him.
The England attackers that will play in the EUROS 2024
Gareth Southgate called up eight natural attackers in the squad for the EUROS 2024. England will have Harry Kane, Bukayo Saka, Cole Palmer, Ivan Toney, Ollie Watkins, Phil Foden, Anthony Gordon, and Jarrod Bowen. England are in Group C, where they will take on Denmark, Serbia, and Slovenia in the group stage.
