Saudi Pro League champions Al-Hilal are reportedly looking to sign AC Milan forward Rafael Leao with the club expected to make an offer this summer.
♦ Al-Hilal want Rafael Leao this season
♦ Milan could be offered a hefty fee
♦ Chelsea and PSG also interested
WHAT HAPPENED?
Portuguese outlet OJogo report that the Saudi champions are looking to make the signing of Leao at the request of coach Jorge Jesus, who would like a reunion with his compatriot.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
The AC Milan forward has a release clause of €175m (£149m/$189m) which is what the Rossoneri have indicated will be their asking price to interested parties. However, the report suggests that Al-Hilal will offer €100m (£85m/$108m) as their opening bid with Leao’s father, Antonio, set to be used as an intermediary between the two sides. Portuguese superagent, Mario Rui, who is related to the royal family, could also play a major role in the conversation with Leao’s entourage going forward.
DID YOU KNOW?
The likes of Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in the services of Leao, however, AC Milan are not ready to negotiate and have suggested that his move will only be possible if the release clause is triggered. This is not a realistic possibility for either club, however, it could be an attainable price for the Saudi Pro League champions.
WHAT NEXT FOR LEAO?
It is expected that Al-Hilal’s first bid will be submitted soon to AC Milan and conversations between all the parties involved will finally kick-off. Meanwhile, Leao has been named in Portugal’s squad for Euro 2024.
