A tiny malnourished puppy squeezed under a family’s fence. She was obviously on her own with nowhere else to go. At first, the family’s son thought she was a rat.
That’s how tiny and malnourished she was! But the family soon realized she was actually just an oddly shaped, small puppy who desperately needed help.
The pup had no tags or a microchip. The family understood that her best chance of survival was to place her in a loving home. The mom reached out to her friend Alicia.
She knew that Alicia and her husband Tre would make excellent parents. Tre laughed and said that the deformed little puppy looked more like a pumpkin and the name stuck.
As soon as Alicia and Tre picked up Pumpkin, they knew she was in rough shape.
They rushed her to the vet the next day and he also confirmed she wouldn’t have survived another day or two on her own. She was put on a high-calorie diet and other meds she needed.
Amazingly, Pumpkin was always the happiest little puppy, despite her challenges. She loved to play with every toy she could find.
Her inner happiness was quite contagious. As Tre and Alicia watched her flourish, they couldn’t help but smile too.
Tre and Alicia’s other dog, Laila, was happy to have Pumpkin as a little sister. Laila is actually a picky dog.
She doesn’t accept just anyone… but she accepted Pumpkin from day one. It’s as if they were always meant to be together.
The more time Laila spent with Pumpkin, the happier they both became. The vet was amazed at how Laila became so puppy-like again.
Pumpkin restored Laila’s playful energy. And Laila, in return, taught Pumpkin a thing or two about manners.
Pumpkin is now full-grown and looks just like an ordinary Pit Bull, except for one thing. She’s miniature. This was likely due to malnutrition during puppyhood.
We are so thankful for Pumpkin’s determination to fight and persevere. She knew she needed humans to survive and did all she could to get help.
