TELL ME MORE
Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring for the league leaders with a winding run and fine left-footed finish. Mbappe joined him on the scoresheet soon after, with a deft flick rolling into the bottom corner – although no-one was quite sure he meant it. The two combined for the Parisian third, as Mbappe produced an outrageous assist after a sublime piece of skill to had his team-mate an easy tap-in. And the captain added a fourth late on, a signature curler to turn a win into a rout. Lorient pulled one back – but did little else other than spoil a Parisian clean sheet.
THE MVP
Mbappe may be on his way out, but he seems to be working towards solidifying his Parisian legacy. The winger was as impactful as ever here, full of energy and movement, while also being devastating in one-on-ones with regularity. He created the Parisians’ third with an outrageous assist. The goals came too, of course. Mbappe buried his side’s second – matching his best goal return in all competitions. The noise around him has been deafening of late, with the constant chatter around his pending Real Madrid move dominating headlines. Here, though, Mbappe was focused on being a world-class player for PSG.
THE BIG LOSER
It was always going to be a case of playing the waiting game for Monaco. In truth, Ligue 1 is long lost. But it’s never a fun thing to watch it slip away for good. And with the PSG’s win today, Monaco’s hopes could be ended within hours of their biggest rivals picking up three points. They have to beat third-placed Lille in the later kick-off.
WHAT COMES NEXT?
The Parisians continue Ligue 1 play this weekend when they host Le Havre at Parc des Princes, where a win will seal Ligue 1. After that, attention turns to the Champions League, and the first leg of their semi-final tie with Borussia Dortmund next Wednesday.
