Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe is reportedly prepared to accept playing as a centre forward if he signs for Real Madrid this summer.
♦ Mbappe seems set to join Madrid
♦ Known for playing on the left
♦ Will accept new role if he signs for Real
WHAT HAPPENED?
It seems the stage is set for Mbappe to finally move from PSG to Madrid this summer but if the 25-year-old does join the Spanish giants as a free agent after his contract at Parc des Princes expires, it appears he may have to tweak his game somewhat. According to Spanish publication AS, the France World Cup winner has accepted he will have to be a No.9 for Real, rather than playing on the left side of attack. The report points out that Vinicius Jr, and sometimes Rodrygo, play in that role and to accommodate all this attacking talent, Mbappe must play up front.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Mbappe is arguably the world’s best player and this season alone he has scored 41 goals in 42 games, despite PSG boss Luis Enrique repeatedly benching the former Monaco man. Currently, a Champions League title and the Ballon d’Or allude him but a move to Madrid could help him achieve both those goals and make Los Blancos an even stronger force to be reckoned with.
DID YOU KNOW?
According to AS, Mbappe asked for confidentiality with Madrid to prevent the PSG ultras from making his life difficult – something that Neymar was on the receiving end of during the tail end of his time with the French club. An official announce on Mbappe’s move to Real is expected at the start of July.
WHAT NEXT?
Mbappe, who was left out of PSG’s 4-1 win over Lyon last weekend in Ligue 1, will hope to feature against Lorient on Wednesday night as his time at the club seemingly draws to a close.
