Neymar has attacked Kylian Mbappe with a bizarre comment on an Instagram.
For six years Mbappe and Neymar were teammates at Paris Saint-Germain, but things didn’t really work out as well as they should have done.
The two star attackers were signed for a combined fee of €402 million, as PSG attempted to build a side capable of winning the Champions League.
While the Parisian club dominated French football between 2017 and 2023, the most prestigious competition in club football eluded them.
Tensions between the two attackers began to grow in recent seasons, with the Brazilian unhappy that he was effectively playing in Mbappe’s shadow when he was meant to be the team’s star.
Neymar left PSG last summer for Saudi Arabia, where he reportedly earns around £130m per season.
The Brazilian is currently recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury he suffered while playing for Brazil in October last year, but that doesn’t mean he is keeping himself out of the headlines.
On Tuesday, Neymar criticised an Instagram account that praised his former teammate Mbappe.
The account made a post about Mbappe that read: “Mbappe is once again showing he is a good guy, the victim of a poorly told story.
“Mbappe has a competitive spirit. People confuse a guy who wants to win everything with a bad person.”
Neymar took exception to the post, and left a comment in which he called the admin a “Gringo ball sucker.”
In Brazil, the term ‘gringo’ refers to someone who is not Brazilian.
According to @SelecaoTalk on X, Neymar was “referring to the Brazilian problem where Brazilians often criticise everything Brazilian and praise everything European.”
The concept was termed the ‘Mongrel Complex’ by Nelson Rodrigues.
The Instagram account that made the Mbappe post has reportedly been critical of Neymar in the past.
While Neymar wasn’t directly insulting Mbappe with his comment, it’s still not a great look.
