Kylian Mbappe continues to dominate the headlines in the 2023 summer transfer window as a move away from PSG is almost guaranteed.
The 24-year-old has told the Ligue 1 champions that he does not plan to extend his current contract beyond June 2024 – leaving the club no choice but to sell him in this window so that they can receive a transfer fee.
Real Madrid and Al Hilal appear to be the two clubs with the most interest in the 2018 World Cup winner, with the latter already submitting a huge world-record bid to try to bring him to the Saudi Pro League.
The Sporting News looks at how much Mbappe could be earning at Al Hilal and how to compares to the current salaries of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
Kylian Mbappe salary at Al Hilal
Al Hilal have reportedly submitted a bid worth £259m ($333m) for Mbappe. This would eclipse the current world-record held by Neymar, when PSG signed him for £191m ($246m) in 2017 from Barcelona.
The Guardian claim that the Saudi Pro League team will offer Mbappe a £172m ($221m) annual salary, which could rise to £602.5m ($774m) following the agreement of commercial arrangements and image rights.
Al Hilal are doing all they can to try and get Mbappe to play with them in the 2023/24 season. It is reported that they’ve only offered him a one-year contract as they understand he wants to move to Real Madrid in the following season.
The incredible figures on offer have not only shocked the football world, but it has also caught the eyes of key names in the NBA. Giannis Antetokounmpo, Draymond Green and Damian Lillard all reacted to the news.
Could Mbappe earn more than Ronaldo and Messi?
Messi has already left PSG following his contract expiration in June, 2023. He decided to move to Inter Miami in the MLS despite also receiving a lucrative offer from Al Hilal. The Argentinian winger was reportedly offered more than £350m-per-year to move to the Middle East, but he preferred a move to America – where he still earns a lot of money.
Ronaldo has certainly had an influence in the Saudi Pro League as more players from European clubs are joining the competition for the upcoming season. Players such as Karim Benzema, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and N’Golo Kante have all joined teams in Saudi Arabia, and many more are on the way.
If Mbappe did join Al Hilal, he would be playing with Milinkovic-Savic, Ruben Neves and Kalidou Koulibaly. They are also reportedly looking add Aleksandar Mitrovic and Malcom to their roster.
The Miami Herald claims that Messi will earn up to £48m($62m)-per-year with Inter Miami, while Ronaldo is currently paid £36m($46m)-per-year with Al Nassr. However, both players also earn additional funds through commercial arrangements. Messi will receive an ownership stake in the club as well percentages of sales of Apple TV’s MLS Pass subscriptions.
Mbappe could earn significantly more than both Messi and Ronaldo, but this could decrease if he chooses to join Real Madrid in the following campaign.
