According to The Star, Man United will recruit Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona, but at a reasonable price.
De Jong was a key factor in Erik ten Hag’s successful reign at Ajax. It is quite understandable that the Dutch strategist has considered him a priority target after becoming coach of Man United in 2022.
That summer, the Old Trafford club were said to have agreed an initial deal worth £53m with Barca. However, De Jong rejected the Red Devils to stay in Spain, and Ten Hag turned to recruiting Casemiro from Real Madrid for 70 million pounds.
In the summer of 2024, De Jong was once again pursued by Man United. According to Daily Star, this 26-year-old player is looking for a new challenge and Barcelona also wants to sell him to somewhat improve the unstable financial situation.
The Catalan giants offered an initial selling price of £90 million for De Jong. This is something Sir Jim Ratcliffe is simply not prepared to accommodate. A report from the Daily Star confirms that Man United only wants to spend 70 million pounds – a valuation they consider more realistic. The Red Devils have also made it clear to Barcelona that they will not be drawn into another drawn-out, grueling sale.
