In an interview with Manchester Evening News, Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag shared a lot about the recent victory over Aston Villa.
Last night, Man United had their fourth consecutive victory in all competitions when the Red Devils defeated Villa 2-1 right at their opponent’s holy land Villa Park with goals scored by Rasmus Hojlund and Scott McTominay.
The victory of the home team at Old Trafford also bore a strong tactical impression from coach Ten Hag because after Man United was equalized by Villa in the 67th minute, the Dutch coach made many changes in attack when withdrawing money. Director Marcus Rashford rested to make room for McTominay, and let captain Bruno Fernandes take on the right wing role while Alejandro Garnacho played on the opposite flank.
The transformation in Man United’s playing style really took effect when it was McTominay who set the score in the 86th minute, thereby helping the Red Devils win all 3 points.
“Garnacho played very well on the right side, but Fernandes can also excel in this position,” Ten Hag said after the match. “In addition, Fernandes also contributes a lot in defense, we know he has a good connection with Diogo Dalot as well as Kobbie Mainoo. As for McTominay, he brings the team energy as well as the ability to penetrate the penalty area.
Witnessing Man United’s recent string of sublime performances, the 54-year-old strategist also affirmed that his team can overcome any obstacle.
“We can beat any opponent but sometimes things don’t go according to goal,” Ten Hag added. “We could have won against Arsenal, a match we deserved to win, and also Liverpool, we could have beaten them if we took advantage of the opportunity.”
The three points won against Villa helped the Old Trafford team have 41 points after 24 matches in the Premier League, Man United is currently 6 points behind the Champions League group next season
