Richard Dunne, former Manchester City captain, believes that the departure of Norwegian star Erling Haaland from the Citizens to Real Madrid will not be easy or in the near future, given the club’s insistence on retaining his services.
Haaland is tied to a long-term contract with Manchester City, specifically until 2027, but some reports confirm the existence of a release clause in his contract that may allow him to move to Real Madrid in the near future, forming a new “Galacticos” team alongside French star Kylian Mbappe.
Dunne stated in exclusive remarks that Haaland has reached his peak with Manchester City and has become the best in the world. The club will not easily let go of his services, explaining, “If you have a player who scores this many goals in the Premier League, replacing him will cost you a lot of money.”
He added, “We bought Haaland for £60 million, so we won’t sell him for £70 million! It’s not that simple. I think he will be sold for three times that amount (£200 million). There are also huge financial implications in the deal. And when the time comes, it will be like that.”
The former City player continued, “I thought when Haaland first came that he might want to play for Real Madrid at some point in his career. He won the treble at Manchester City and achieved everything he could. But I think he will stay for maybe another two or three seasons. I think he will stay there until he turns 25, and then we may see him move on.”
He continued, “I think Haaland is enjoying his time at Manchester City. I know reports suggest otherwise, but that’s the truth. He wins matches every week, scores goals, and wins titles. He will be able to win the treble again.”
Dunne commented on Haaland’s link to Real Madrid, saying, “I don’t see this as an immediate concern for City, but maybe in two or three years, his desire may be to move forward. They are close to getting Kylian Mbappe, and Their interest will immediately shift to Erling. As a football fan, who wouldn’t want to see this duo play together?”
