After being fired by AS Roma, coach Jose Mourinho waited for the opportunity to return to Man Utd.
According to Daily Mail, coach Jose Mourinho wants to return to Man Utd to “complete unfinished work”. The Portuguese coach led Man Utd from May 2016 to December 2018, winning 3 titles before being fired.
Daily Mail quoted a source close to Mourinho, saying the 61-year-old coach believes that the management system of billionaire Jim Ratcliffe – who has just bought back 25% of shares and taken over management of Man Utd – will create the difference compared to the previous period at Old Trafford.
“His ambition is to return to Man Utd. He feels he still has unfinished business at Man Utd and has set himself the task of returning,” a friend of Mourinho revealed to the Daily Mail.
Mourinho led Man Utd for a total of 144 matches with a winning rate of 58.33%, the highest among Red Devils coaches after Alex Ferguson as of December 2018. He helped the Old Trafford home team win the English League Cup and Europa League in the 2016/17 season, runner-up in the Premier League and FA Cup in 2017/18.
However, in his third season working at Man Utd, coach Mourinho ran into trouble because of conflicts with some players and management. He was fired after the loss to Liverpool at the end of 2018.
After leaving the Old Trafford team, “The Special One” worked at two other clubs, Tottenham and AS Roma. The common point of these two teams is that they did not keep Mourinho until the end of 3 years and both decided to fire him early due to declining performance.
Mourinho has not signed a contract with any club after being fired by AS Roma recently. Meanwhile, at Man Utd, coach Erik ten Hag faces a lot of pressure because of the poor performance of the Old Trafford team. “Red Devils” are ranked 9th on the Premier League rankings and have only 1 victory in the last 6 rounds.
