For Neymar, the last few months have been a nightmare. In addition to the usual off-field scandals, such as rumors about an alleged child he will have with a Brazilian model, there were many soccer-related problems. Last summer he did the whole preseason with Paris Saint-Germain and was ready to start a new Ligue 1 tournament, when a week before the club’s chiefs announced that he had to leave.
After being rejected by Barcelona, the Brazilian forward agreed to join Al-Hilal. He followed the path of Cristiano Ronaldo and joined other stars who left Europe in exchange for multi-million dollar offers from Pro League clubs. But he barely managed to play a few games there.
For the first few weeks, he was recovering from muscle discomfort that prevented him from playing and then he was called up by Fernando Diniz to play for Brazil in the international break in September. Finally, upon his return to Asia, he was able to make his debut for his new club and participated in 3 Pro League and 2 CONCACAF Champions League matches, scoring a goal and providing 3 assists.
In October he went to South America again to play the 2026 World Cup qualifiers with Brazil and there the worst happened: during the first half of the match against Uruguay in Montevideo, he suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in his left knee. This forced him to undergo surgery and begin a recovery process of between six and nine months, which means he will not play again this season.
It was a lousy deal
Al-Hilal paid nearly $100 million to PSG to buy Neymar, while offering him a salary of $110 million per year. But his knee injury will prevent the Brazilian forward from playing again this season, so those 5 games will be the only ones he will register with the Saudi side for now. That means Al-Hilal are paying Ney a salary of $22 million per game played.
