Phil Foden’s mother, Claire Rowlands, aged 44, was recently involved in a legal incident following a drinking episode. During a weekend away with friends, she consumed vodka and tequila and became involved in a disturbance at a sports bar in Towyn, North Wales. The situation escalated when she flicked off a man’s cap, which she described as a party trick. This led to her being asked to leave the venue by security staff.
After her ejection, Rowlands had a confrontation with the police, resulting in her spending a night in custody. She admitted to acting aggressively towards the officers, acknowledging that she becomes difficult to handle when she drinks.
In court at Llandudno magistrates, Rowlands faced charges of assault by beating and being drunk and disorderly. The assault charge stemmed from the incident where she flicked off the man’s cap and then tried to put it back on him. However, the court cleared her of the assault charge after reviewing CCTV footage and considering the absence of the alleged victim’s testimony. The footage showed her engaging in the act without any apparent intent to harm.
Despite being acquitted of assault, Rowlands was found guilty of being drunk and disorderly. She admitted to this charge earlier. The court fined her £100, with additional costs and a surcharge, amounting to a total of £225, which she must pay within 90 days.
Rowlands, married to Phil Foden Sr., explained her rare drinking behavior as a response to the stress of caring for her severely disabled youngest son, who requires constant attention. The incident occurred after she had been given a break by friends, who invited her to a caravan for a weekend getaway. Her son, Phil Foden, a well-known footballer, was not directly involved in the incident.
