Striker Kylian Mbappe posted a message to defend his French team-mate currently playing for Milan, Mike Maignan, after the goalkeeper was racially abused during the match against Udinese in Serie A.
Accordingly, not long after the racist incident with Maignan happened, Mbappe posted a post on his Twitter account to express his support for his teammate at the blue team. He seemed very frustrated and affirmed that there would never be any effective solution to stop this racism.
During the match at Udinese’s stadium, Maignan was the victim of racist insults and monkey-like cries. At first, the French goalkeeper tried to play as if nothing happened. He also received words of encouragement and comfort from his Milan teammates and Udinese players. Even the Udinese Board of Directors came to the field to calm the situation.
However, Maignan rushed into the locker room, took off his gloves and did not want to continue the match. “I didn’t want to continue the match. But then, we decided to return to the field and win. That is the strongest answer,” Maignan emphasized after the match.
For his part, Mbappe wrote on his personal page: “You are far from having to fight alone, Mike Maignan. We are all always with you. There are always the same problems and there are always no solutions. That’s enough!!! Say NO to racism.” And accompanied by a “stop” symbol and a fist.
Mbappe just scored a double and made 2 assists to help PSG defeat Orleans 4-1 in the 2023/24 French National Cup. In addition, the French Football Federation also spoke out in support of this 28-year-old goalkeeper and condemned “in the most resolute way any act of racism”.
