According to the Times, Sir Jim Ratcliffe may be forced by the Glazer family to sell his shares in Manchester United next year.
INEOS owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe confirmed his intention to buy the Red Devils last month. He bought a 25% stake in Man Utd in a deal worth around £1.3 billion.
The partial takeover of the club is still waiting for approval from the Premier League organizers. The Times reported that once it is sealed, the Glazer family can still force the British billionaire to sell his shares in the club.
A document included in the bidding was recently leaked. Accordingly, it said the Glazers were not allowed to solicit or encourage new investment towards the club after Sir Jim’s offer, which will be completed on February 13.
However, after 18 months, the American owners can sell the club outright to any other interested party. In this, they could also force Ratcliffe’s company to sell its entire 25%, as part of the new takeover.
At this time, Sir Jim is expected to manage the football side at Man Utd, while the Glazer family continues to manage the commercial side.
