Manchester City are back in Premier League action this weekend as they make the tough trip to Newcastle United. Pep Guardiola’s men can cut the gap at the top of the table with victory over the Magpies, but they may have to do so without Erling Haaland.
The striker has been colossal to City’s dominance over the past 18 months with an incredible 71 goals in 75 games. However, he has missed the last eight games due to a foot injury.
Having recently returned to first team training, Haaland is in contention to finally be named in City’s matchday squad. But, is Saturday’s trip to Tyneside too soon for him?
Right now, we have no idea whether the Norway international will be passed fit to feature. After tomorrow’s game, City are not in action for another two weeks, when they face Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup.
Guardiola is due to meet the press later this afternoon and the fitness of Haaland is expected to be at the forefront of the questions. His return will come as a much-welcomed boost for City, who have already lost at Newcastle this season.
Fortunately, City will have Kevin De Bruyne and Jeremy Doku available after the duo returned from their respective injuries in last week’s 5-0 FA Cup win over Huddersfield Town.
