The 2022 Golden Ball winner is receiving a huge salary in Saudi Arabia, but former Manchester United striker Louis Saha thinks the French star will be a perfect fit at Old Trafford. Manchester United were urged to make a shock move in January for former Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema, despite the French striker only moving to Saudi Arabia last summer.
Head coach Erik ten Hag is in desperate need of a stable scorer to help MU get back on track. Louis Saha, former MU player and Benzema’s compatriot, is urging the club to make a surprise move. Louis Saha told Spanish newspaper AS the following:
“Benzema will change Man United’s attack, and that’s exactly what they need now. He will definitely score goals and ensure better team play. For now, it’s just a dream , but Karim is still very professional.”
Benzema is earning a lot of money at Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ittihad, where he has scored 9 goals in 15 appearances. Al-Ittihad sit seventh in the Saudi Pro League standings, a disappointing position for a squad that also includes former Chelsea star N’Golo Kante and former Liverpool midfielder Fabinho. The French star is said to be unhappy at the Arab club so a move to leave could be considered.
Sir Alex Ferguson previously revealed that Benzema seemed to have been very close to MU in the past. Former MU coach Ferguson said: “We tried to spend money selling Ronaldo to buy Karim Benzema at the age of 21. He is tough, physically good, has a good scoring record, so it is worth negotiating. But when the price offered up to £42m, it was way over his value. We offered £35m and I thought that was fair.”
It is known that Man United has lost Champions League champion Timo Werner. The German international is expected to join Tottenham Hotspur on loan until the end of the season. Besides, the Red Devils are making moves to sell some reserve players in this transfer period. Sancho is close to leaving MU. Borussia Dortmund have been linked with a bid to bring the England star back to Germany. Defender Raphael Varane is also considered if there is a suitable offer.
