After learning of the release clause in the Norwegian’s Manchester City contract, Real Madrid is reportedly still interested in signing Erling Haaland for 2024.
The 23-year-old has been under Los Blancos’ radar for a number of years, having previously played for Borussia Dortmund and RB Salzburg.
In 2023–23, Haaland had a record-breaking first season under Pep Guardiola and was instrumental in the Citizens’ treble victory.
Real Madrid has now been made aware of the Premier League Golden Boot winner’s release clause, which is reportedly worth around £171.6 million and will go into effect next year, according to a report from Spanish publication AS via Sport Witness.
The study also notes that, starting in 2024 and continuing through the contract’s expiration in 2027, the release clause’s value will decline with each subsequent transfer window.
While Los Blancos have reportedly been connected to a deal for Kylian Mbappe of Paris Saint-Germain, it is thought that some members of the club’s hierarchy would prefer to acquire a more conventional number nine, and Haaland is at the top of the list of potential options.
With 36 goals in the previous season, Haaland surpassed the record held by Andy Cole and Alan Shearer, who had played in 42 seasons.
The Norwegian attacker also surpassed the record for the most goals scored by a Premier League player in a single season in all competitions, with 52, defeating the 44 goals scored by Mohamed Salah and Ruud van Nistelrooy in previous campaigns.
