Kylian Mbappe was in a teasing mood when a journalist asked the forward about what his new position at Paris Saint-Germain means for his future.
The attacker has been given more of a free role by PSG coach Luis Enrique, but his future remains uncertain as his contract at the French club expires at the end of the season. Asked if his new position could have an impact on his future decision, Mbappe gave a stinging response.
When a journalist asked about his new position, Mbappe interrupted, saying: “Yeah, what’s the connection actually? I didn’t understand.”
The reporter wondered if the transformation would help persuade him to stay, the attacker said: “Because before I wasn’t important? I have always been important. I’m not even more so, I’m in continuity. It’s the evolution of a player. I’m in continuity with what I have been since I arrived in Paris.”
Mbappe discussed his future this week and said he has not made a decision on whether or not he will stay. Real Madrid continues to be linked with a move for the France international, but PSG also sees Liverpool as a possible threat to their hopes of keeping him.
The 25-year-old is now free to enter negotiations with other teams over a possible summer transfer. While he fields offers, however, he will likely see out the rest of the season with PSG and may be in action when they meet Revel in the Coupe de France on Sunday.
