Kylian Mbappe became the most mentioned athlete in French mass media in 2023. This is the sixth consecutive year that PSG’s French superstar is the number 1 sports personality of the year in the hexagonal land.
This is the chart announced by Tagaday this morning. Tagaday is a leading media monitoring platform in France, and has just announced the 11th edition of the 1000 most searched personalities in this Western European country. Tagaday’s rankings are based on analysis of 5,400 news programs broadcast by 410 television channels, radio stations and 3,000 printed and electronic publications.
After finishing ninth in 2022, Mbappe climbed to fourth place this year and became the only athlete in the Top 10 most mentioned and quoted figures in the media. This is the sixth consecutive time that Mbappe leads the list of most quoted sports figures.
In all fields, PSG’s No. 7 and France’s No. 10 are only behind Gerald Darmanin, Elisabeth Borne and Emmanuel Macron, the three main figures of French political life, while he ranks above both respected Presidents. Joe Biden (USA) and Vladimir Putin (Russia).
In the Top 30, there are notably three former PSG members, including Lionel Messi (13th), Neymar (22nd) and Christophe Galtier (27th). Like from 2017 until now, Mbappe has once again ranked first among the most quoted and mentioned athletes/sports figures in French media.
He ranked above former teammate Messi and coach Didier Deschamps. The captain of the French national team has been quoted and mentioned 20,000 times less than last year, but still leads the rankings, 150,000 times more than Messi.
Arriving at Parc des Princes Summer 2023, coach Luis Enrique immediately entered the Top 15 most mentioned sports figures in France. Before coming to PSG, Lucho ranked… 874th last year.
