Liverpool might not be sitting at the top of the Premier League as it would have hoped heading into Christmas, but the Reds can be more than happy with how their season is going so far.
With just one game to go until we reached the halfway point in the campaign, Jürgen Klopp’s side sits just one point off Premier League leaders Arsenal. Neither side could be separated when they met at Anfield on Saturday, although Liverpool will feel it could have mentioned a vital three points and made a major statement.
Nevertheless, the Reds are firmly in the hunt for four trophies this season, having also safely progressed to the knockout stages of the Europa League, as well as the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup. The focus in the New Year will be on making sure some silverware is earned.
Liverpool will also need to keep an eye on its rivals, and according to the latest reports, Paris Saint-Germain could be about to beat the Reds to a January transfer. Here, Liverpool.com takes a scan around the other big sides in the Premier League and around Europe to take a look at the news going on at the other clubs.
Kylian Mbappé does not want to leave PSG in January, according to L’Equipe. The 25-year-old’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, leaving him free to discuss a free transfer with any clubs outside of France.
A move to Real Madrid has been heavily touted, although the Spanish club could be forced to wait. PSG, meanwhile prize, will not want to lose its asset for nothing, which could complicate matters further.
Liverpool.com says: One way or another, we should get an end to the current Mbappé saga in 2024, although it’s hard to see where he goes from here. There is absolutely no way PSG will want to let him leave for free, so the only options are to move him on in January, or try and tie him down to a new deal.
Real Madrid doesn’t seem in any rush to get a deal done either, so this could pull on, and it has the potential to get ugly again. One thing’s for certain though, he won’t be coming to Liverpool…
