Manchester City extended their dominance in elite international football
Josep Guardiola’s Manchester City extended their dominance in elite international football by thrashing Fluminense 4-0 in the FIFA Club World Cup Final, giving the Citizens their first intercontinental tournament in the club’s history. Fluminense could do little to stop the dominance of Pep Guardiola’s side, who, with possession and the right positioning, were ahead on the scoreboard before the first minute had even been played at the Saudi Arabian venue.
Manchester City defeated Fluminense 4-0 in the FIFA Club World Cup Final with goals from Julián Álvarez 40 seconds into the match; Nino scored in his own goal for Fluminense to make it 2-0, while Phil Foden made it 3-0 after 72′ and again Julián Álvarez closed the 4-0 scoreline with a strike in the 88th minute.
As they left the stadium, the City players joked about what had happened as Bernardo Silva and Erling Haaland escorted Grealish as “private security”. A fierce confrontation between players occurred after the close of the Club World Cup final, where Felipe Melo accused Jack Grealish of being a provocateur for Manchester City’s drubbing; and the European offered a response.
Haaland was Grealish’s private security
“I didn’t start any argument, I simply went to defend my teammate (Matheus) Martinelli. Grealish is disrespectful. He’s a great player, but a disrespectful guy who started shouting ‘Ole’ at the end,” said the annoyed Fluminense player in the mixed zone outside the stadium.
