Real Madrid is actively considering options in the January transfer market with the main motivation being to resolve the injury crisis in defense. Carlo Ancelotti named his former student Raphael Varane, who is currently falling out of favor at Man United.
Real Madrid leads La Liga with 45 points, equal to Girona and 7 points ahead of Barcelona. But things can deteriorate quickly when the White Vultures defense is in serious crisis. Eder Militao is out of action until at least March, and David Alaba is out for the rest of the season, both with anterior cruciate ligament injuries. This leaves Real Madrid with only Antonio Rudiger and Nacho Fernandez as the remaining true centre-backs.
Los Blancos were initially opposed to the idea of a January transfer, but coach Carlo Ancelotti pushed for the signing of reinforcements and it looks like he will achieve his goal. Diario AS reports that the search is underway, although there is no rush and Real Madrid remain confident in their current options.
One of the proposed options is Man United defender Raphael Varane. Real Madrid themselves have not yet fully evaluated the reserve midfielder at Old Trafford, but Ancelotti really wants to get Varane back. The French World Cup winner has a lot of experience, has proven himself at the highest level and will not need time to adapt to Madrid, as he has already spent a decade there.
