Coach Erik Ten Hag is confident that he still has the support of Man Utd’s board of directors, despite the results of Liverpool’s away trip to Anfield in round 17 of the Premier League.
“I feel positive. The board of directors told me. Everything is fine and will be fine,” coach Ten Hag shared about his future before the match between Man Utd and Liverpool in round 17 of the Premier League. (11:30 p.m. December 17) at Anfield.
Last weekend, Man Utd was eliminated from the Champions League right from the group stage after losing 0-1 to Bayern Munich in the final match. Previously, the “Red Devils” had just received an embarrassing defeat with a score of 0-3 against Bournemouth at Old Trafford in round 16 of the Premier League.
Coach Ten Hag’s team is going through a disappointing season, being eliminated from the Champions League, Europa League, and Carabao Cup. Now the Manchester club only has hope in the Premier League arena but they are still struggling in 7th place with 27 points after 16 rounds.
If they continue to fail at Anfield, Man Utd will help Liverpool consolidate the top spot in the table and be 13 points behind. However, the Dutch strategist is still confident that his “hot seat” will stand firm even if he admits defeat.
“I’m focusing on the long term, focusing on making the team play better and making individuals play better. That’s my concern and what I’m focusing on.
Right now Man Utd is unstable, but I have to work hard to build a squad that can play for a longer time at a higher level,” coach Ten Hag expressed.
Notably, in the clash with Liverpool at Anfield last year, the “Red Devils” let Jurgen Klopp’s team completely dominate and win with a strong score of 7-0. It was a painful experience for Man Utd, but coach Ten Hag believes his players have learned their lesson.
“I think everyone is highly motivated this time coming to Anfield. You know it’s going to be difficult. But that’s all a top footballer wants, they want a challenge.
You must look forward. We remember last year, but you have to take advantage of it and learn from it. We can prove it,” the Dutch strategist affirmed.
