Dortmund is the first team in Group F – the “death group” that is sure to advance. However, the German team still needs points in the match against PSG in the final round to maintain the top spot in the group and avoid strong opponents in the knockout round. Meanwhile, PSG only needs a draw to pass the group stage.
The away team prevailed. Kylian Mbappe almost scored when he beat the Dortmund goalkeeper to finish into an empty goal. However, the home defender rushed back and broke the ball in time right in front of the goal line.
PSG’s mistake caused them to concede at the beginning of the second half. Achraf Hakimi – a player who used to play for Dortmund – lost the ball at home. Karim Adeyemi ended the match with a simple shot.
PSG pressed the field for the rest of the match and quickly equalized. Young talent Warren Zaire-Emery continued to make his mark with a goal that helped PSG regain second place on the rankings.
The French team took the lead at one point when Mbappe scored a goal for Dortmund. However, VAR stepped in and the simulation showed that the away team’s striker was half offside.
The match ended with a draw of 1-1. Dortmund topped the group, joining PSG in the 1/8 round of the Champions League. AC Milan won a spot in the Europa League in this group. Newcastle United were eliminated.
