Atletico de Madrid superstar Antoine Griezmann has been on top of his game this season. The player has revived his career for the Rojiblancos emerging as their top scorer. During an interview with ESPN, Griezmann was asked to name his picks to create the ultimate forward. The Frenchman, surprisingly, snubbed both Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland while naming Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, among other legends, to complete his ultimate forward.
The Frenchman has been in impressive form for Atletico Madrid this season. Following his return to the Spanish capital, the former Barcelona star has revitalized his career. Griezmann, in his nineteen outings for Atletico, has already found the back of the net on thirteen occasions. But his recent move may earn him some infamy.
The French superstar was presented with ESPN UK in an interview where he was asked to create the ‘Ultimate Forward’ during one segment. Griezmann was asked to name one player for each ability, which saw him name legends and fellow teammates, giving the cold shoulder to both Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe in the process.
Griezmann started things off by choosing Inter Miami owner David Beckham for his passing trait. He then picked former Barcelona teammate Sergio Busquets for his intelligence. Cristiano Ronaldo came next for strength before the French star picked himself for the endurance trait.
Griezmann pondered a little while thinking about his pick for the work rate trait before naming fellow Atletico teammate Koke. To wrap things up the player named Thierry Henry as his pick for the speed trait while Lionel Messi, someone Griezmann idolizes, covers the technique aspect. Last but not least, the player added a surprising name to the list picking Filippo Inzaghi for his finishing trait.
Neither Mbappe nor Haaland made an appearance in Griezmann’s praises. While this may earn him backlash, the French star has been receiving notable praise for his performance. A former Atletico Madrid star lavished praise on the player in a recent interview for reinventing himself after his run with Barcelona.
Former Atletico Madrid star Luis Garcia was full of praise for the Frenchman during a recent interview. The player applauded Griezmann for his work rate, at the same time blaming Barcelona for the rough patch in the player’s career.
The former footballer claimed, “He is mature–we can see how hard he works, not just technically. We know his capabilities, that he is one of the most talented players we can see today: he assists, he scores goals, he works hard.”
