Kylian Mbappe’s contract with PSG will expire in June 2024 and will be free to negotiate with other clubs from January 1. This looks like it will be Mbappe’s last season at PSG after negotiations with the club failed in the summer.
Real Madrid has always been the leading team in the race to win Mbappe’s signature, but Liverpool is also a possible option, after negotiations between the player and Jurgen Klopp in 2017.
Speaking to talkSPORT, L’Equipe journalist Loic Tanzi affirmed that The Kop has a great chance to recruit Mbappe – but only if Madrid withdraws from the race.
“Liverpool wanted Mbappe since he was playing for Monaco. Coach Klopp came to meet him and they negotiated on the plane.
The relationship between Mbappe, Liverpool and Klopp still exists. I think they have a chance. If Madrid decides to give up and doesn’t want him anymore, I think Liverpool has a chance.”
Mbappe’s decision revolves around winning the Champions League and benefiting the race for the Golden Ball.
Tanzi added: “Mbappe loves Paris Saint-Germain. Winning the Champions League in Paris is more important than winning the Champions League in Madrid.
Winning a Champions League trophy here is more important than winning 2-3 championships in Madrid or Liverpool. So I think they can convince him to stay – because the new project is being built around him. That’s what Mbappe wants.
Mbappe wants to have the feeling that PSG can win the Champions League, if he doesn’t give him that kind of confidence, he will leave.”
Liverpool could also be a suitable choice for Mbappe as the relationship between him and coach Klopp is quite close. Real Madrid is keeping its interest open for now.
