PSG has done a good job so far after the appointment of Luis Enrique. The Spanish tactician has taken the initiative when it comes to his job. Enrique has not shied away from making his opinion known, even criticizing star player Kylian Mbappe, despite the player putting on commendable performances. In a recent interview with Amazon Prime, the Spaniard touched down on his relationship with his French ace.
Luis Enrique made headlines as he slammed Kylian Mbappe, following the game against Reims. Despite the French superstar finding the back of the net thrice in the game, the PSG manager was not too pleased with the player. Despite a stunning hat trick, Enrique said he expected more from the player during his press conference. Now, the Spanish coach has chimed in, explaining his reasoning.
The Parisians bagged an overwhelming 5-2 win over AS Monaco in their last game. During an interview with Amazon Prime following the game, Enrique cleared the air relationship by stating that he has an excellent relationship with the player, “I have a very good relationship with Kylian. From day one, the players know that I’m demanding. He’s the first, like everyone else. But a fortiori, a player of his level, every time, would want to improve his game, play good matches, play every minute, want to score goals, and win titles. I don’t want him to ever be satisfied.”
The PSG manager then added, “We ask this of everyone and especially of important players like Kylian. My job as a coach is to be demanding. I like them to train well, play well, and be competitive. There’s no room for rest and relaxation.”
Although Enrique has now shed light on his aims and coaching style, he did leave people in disbelief when he slammed Kylian Mbappe after his match-winning performance against Reims.
Following the game against Reims, the PSG manager questioned Mbappe’s impact on the game. The Spaniard stated he was not pleased with his ace’s performance and expected more from him in the coming games.
“I have nothing to say about the goals, but he can help the team in another way. I will talk about it with him first, but they are private conversations. Kylian is one of the best players in the world, but we want more,” Enrique said.
