Striker Erling Haaland was hurt in the final minutes of the friendly match against the Faroe Islands and it is unknown whether he will play in the next match against Scotland or not.
In the friendly match that Norway won 2-0 against the Faroe Islands, Haaland was only put on the field in the second half. He couldn’t score… and in the last minutes injured his left ankle.
The striker tried to take a shot in the penalty area but failed to touch the ball and hit the ground with his left foot, causing his ankle to get stuck a bit due to the poor turf. He stood up but quickly fell to the ground with a grimace of pain on his face. Haaland was treated immediately but it is still unclear what the situation is.
“I think he’s fine. I haven’t talked to Haaland yet, but he was able to return to the match, which means things are not that serious,” coach Solbakken said.
Norway’s doctor Ola Sand explained Haaland’s condition: “Haaland had a slight sprain on his ankle in a slightly vulnerable area. It was very painful. But it passed quite quickly. We We’ll see how things go tomorrow.”
The Norwegian team is no longer able to win an official ticket to the EURO 2024 finals. Meanwhile, the opportunity to win a play-off spot is also very difficult.
They will face Scotland on Sunday and Dr Sand does not know if Haaland will be able to play: “We have spoken to the people of Man City. Erling spoke with his club and with physiotherapist Mario Pafundi. We will treat him together. Haaland will rest and we will see how he is tomorrow.”
If Haaland is seriously injured, it will be a big loss for Man City as they will have a difficult match with Liverpool next weekend.
