Erling Haaland has been voted Best Player of the 2022/2023 season by the Swedish branch of the Official Supporters Club of Manchester City.
Haaland is the latest recipient of the Green Horse award, which has been awarded annually for the past 13 years, by the Swedish branch, which currently has 580 members.
Every member can participate in the annual poll for the most impressive player of the season. Recent winners include Phil Foden, Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva.
“This tradition has become very important to our members. It shows great commitment and brings greater recognition to the club,” said Anders Rosén, Vice President of the Swedish branch.
“More than a third of all members participated in the voting and the award to Erling was overwhelming.”
The prize is a wooden Blue Horse, designed, carved and painted entirely by hand by artist Jonny Gudmunds from Rattvik.
“The wooden horse originated in the province of Dalarna in Sweden,” Rosen said.
“From the beginning, horses were carved by hand on small farms during the long, cold and dark winter nights of Dalarna. Often used as toys or for sale. Today, it has become one of Sweden’s most powerful national symbols.
“The most popular color of wooden horses is red. But of course red is impossible for us. So we designed our own green horse.”
