Man City rookies left stunned by unexpected stars, not Haaland. Find out who caught their attention

Josko Gvardiol joined Premier League champions Man City last summer. City paid RB Leipzig 77.6 million pounds and made him the second most expensive defender in history, after MU’s Harry Maguire.

But Gvardiol integrated very quickly into coach Pep Guardiola’s squad and performed excellently in the left-back position. Gvardiol faced Man City in the Champions League last season, seeing the home team lose 0-7 when Erling Haaland scored 5 goals.

However, when the 21-year-old arrived at City, he was impressed by his other teammates. When asked who surprised him the most, Gvardiol chose goalkeeper Ederson and midfielder Rodri.

Defender Josko Gvardiol named the two players who surprised him the most since joining Man City.

“Ederson and Rodri. If we talk about Ederson, it is because he is a goalkeeper but he handles the ball very well. And with Rodri, the reason is because he is always everywhere, keeps the ball and the way he controls the ball is amazing,” the Croatian defender shared.

Mateo Kovacic also agreed with Gvardiol’s choice.

Gvardiol made his first match for Man City against Sevilla in the European Super Cup. He has made nine appearances so far and was compared by Gary Neville to the legendary Paolo Maldini after the win over MU on Sunday.

Even though he is still young, he has shown a mature, calm playing style and is especially compatible with Man City’s old defense. City is currently third in the Premier League and 2 points behind leader Tottenham.

At the weekend, Man City will return to their home field when they host AFC Bournemouth. The Cherries are struggling since the appointment of new coach Andoni Iraola and they are currently 17th in the rankings, just one point above the danger zone.
