The reason why Erling Haaland can still qualify for EURO 2024
Erling Haaland
Erling Haaland did not have the best of luck in the most recent FIFA International Break. Norway had in its hands the possibility of accessing EURO 2024, at least, through the playoffs, however, this was not the case and they lost at home to Spain. After the event, the Norwegian team seemed to be completely out of Euro 2024. However, one last option is that of Erling Haaland and Odegaard to play in their first EURO.
In all likelihood, the Netherlands team will not have to resort to the ‘safety net’. While direct qualification is within reach for the Dutch team, this does not apply to countries such as Greece, Sweden, Croatia, Italy, Poland and Norway. Therefore, there is also a chance that players like Luka Modric, Nicolo Barella, Robert Lewandowski and Erling Haaland will have two crucial games at the end of March. In that sense, the Norwegian team has one last bullet to try to qualify.
EURO 2024 has high expectations for many. In total, 24 countries will perform next summer in Germany. Germans are automatically placed because they are the host country. Twenty countries qualify directly through the normal route, the first two countries in the ten groups will go directly to the Euro Cup. The last qualifying matches will be played on November 21 and it will be known who will be able to appear in Germany in June.
Erling Haaland’s worrying streak
He has gone, in total, 346 minutes without scoring. Since September 23, almost a month ago, in the victory against Nottinghan Forest (2-0), he has not scored with his club. A slump that Cristiano Ronaldo (40) has taken advantage of to overthrow Haaland (39) as the top scorer in 2023. “Sometimes it’s a little stressful. I’m starting to get a little tired of hearing my own name,” Haaland recently complained about being always on everyone’s lips when he plays well or badly.
