At the end of the game between Man City and Arsenal, Erling Haaland got into a heated altercation with both teams’ personnel.
As the teams and personnel were heading in after the game, tensions erupted. Haaland was restrained by City employees, and Kyle Walker was separated from Arsenal employees by security guards.
Haaland and Walker both seemed dissatisfied with what an Arsenal staff member had said to them as they left the field. Former City employee and current Gunners set piece coach Nicolas Jover looked to be in the thick of things.
Phil Foden, though, was able to appreciate the humor in the situation and smiled wryly at the scuffles as he passed through the tunnel. Security personnel, who were able to tell the opposing players apart, helped the two individuals down the tunnel.
After Gabriel Martinelli’s late strike gave Arsenal their first Premier League victory against City in eight years, the incident occurred. The attacker returned from injury at halftime and made an immediate impact after being substituted in.
With only five minutes remaining on the clock, he scored the game-winning goal after his shot deflected off Nathan Ake’s face, fooling City goalkeeper Ederson in the process.
While Pep Guardiola’s City went on to become only the second English team to win the triple, Arsenal came close to winning the title last season.
Arsenal’s failure to earn a single point against City last season was expensive, but things are already looking up thanks to Martinelli’s deflected goal. Their Premier League victory over City marked the end of a 12-game losing streak in this matchup.
A scoreless draw seemed certain, with the referee’s decision not to send off Mateo Kovacic in the first half being the primary talking point. But Arsenal showed grit and determination to win their third straight encounter versus City in all competitions, following up their shootout victory in the Community Shield.
Arsenal played without their best player, Bukayo Saka, but thanks to Martinelli, the match had a memorable finish.
