PSG. Al Khelaifi responds to Messi’s dig: With all due respect PSG are a French club
Since the birth of the Super League project, no one has been more opposed than PSG and ECA president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi.
The Qatari spoke with Polish media Meczyki, where he reviewed the situation of the ‘new’ European competition, the future and state of mind of Kylian Mbappé, and his relationship with the two clubs who remain in the Super League project, Real Madrid and Barcelona.
The PSG president confirmed that he has discussed the issue with Joan Laporta on several occasions and his opinion has not changed on the matter.
“I am not against Barcelona or Real Madrid. I’m not going to exclude anyone. I am against conflict and fighting,” he said. “I met with Joan Laporta, president of Barcelona, and I told him the same thing. If they want to fight, let them fight each other. The Superliga is a joke right now”.
Al-Khelaifi explained the value of Ceferin. The UEFA president has always had a great relationship with the PSG boss.
“We work for the collective good and many of us could have chosen otherwise. UEFA itself did a great job in stopping the Super League. In this regard I also have to thank the contribution of Aleksandar Ceferin,” explained the Qatari leader.
Mbappe’s future and possible signings for PSG
The French striker is on the Parisian club’s agenda every summer. Ahead of the winter transfer window, Al-Khelaifi’s men have made moves in order to please their star player as much as possible. The departures of Messi and Neymar, the signings of Asensio, Kolo Muani, Dembélé and the hiring of Luis Enrique were key to keeping the 7 for another season.
For the time being, and with his future totally in doubt for next season, the PSG president is calm about Kylian’s situation: “He is a PSG player. He loves this club and is a fantastic player. The best in the world. We are happy to have Mbappé… and we will have him.”
Had he left during any of the past transfer windows, one name was mentioned as his replacement: Lewandowski. “Robert at Barcelona. All the clubs looked at him. There weren’t many players who scored goals in every game. We met and I can only speak very well of him.”
