If you’re a professional footballer, the world is a small place. That’s what Serigo Aguero and Kylian Mbappe discovered when they met during their summer vacation in Ibiza.
Less than a month ago, the two strikers shared the Kazan Arena in a classic World Cup knockout tie between France and Argentina. Both players scored, but it was Mbappe’s France who advanced and won the trophy.
However, it appears that they have no ill will between them, as they posed for a photo that was later shared across their various social media channels on Thursday.
It was quickly seized upon by obsessive tweeter Benjamin Mendy, who works with both players on a domestic and international level. The left back, who won the World Cup with Mbappe, urged Aguero to bring the talented striker back to Manchester City.
#AgentKun do your thang bro.’ he wrote.
Mbappe would almost certainly need more than Aguero’s encouragement to leave Paris Saint-Germain.
Following his incredible performances in Russia, where he became the first teenager to score in a World Cup final since Pele in 1958, he became arguably the most valuable footballer in the world.
He is already the club’s second-most expensive player after his £164 million move from Monaco, which was agreed on last summer but only completed this year. PSG are hoping he will bring them their first European title soon.
His meteoric rise has even put Neymar’s position as the club’s crown jewel in jeopardy. Indeed, when he arrived from Barcelona, the Brazilian was expected to be the undisputed king of the Parc des Princes, but his stock has plummeted following a poor World Cup performance.
Mbappe’s status as PSG’s darling was cemented further on Thursday when he was given the No. 7 shirt. The 19-year-old takes over the number from Lucas Moura, who left for Tottenham Hotspur in January.
