Only one side, in David Silva’s opinion, stands a chance to dethrone Manchester City as Premier League champions this year.
A beloved personality among Sky Blues supporters, former City playmaker Silva was instrumental in their first-ever Premier League championship in 2012.
The Spaniard continued to play for the team, appearing in over 400 games, and during his distinguished career, he collected four Premier League championships, two FA Cups, and five League Cups.
Sadly, the 37-year-old had to retire this summer due to a knee injury, but he believes that City will continue to rule English football for some time to come.
“They [City] have an amazing team with some amazing players,” Silva told The Mirror.
“This is Pep’s eighth season at City. The first year he was getting used to the Premier League, but now they are almost unstoppable.”
The response may enrage teams like Liverpool and Manchester United, who will also be aiming to contend for the title this season. However, the former Spain international believes Arsenal are the only team who stand a chance of challenging the defending champions.
“Arsenal are the only team I can see who maybe have a chance of challenging City,” he added. “The rest? I don’t think they can.
“I watched nearly all of City’s games in the Champions League last season, I couldn’t win it when I was there, but I’m so happy for the club that they were finally able to do it.
“They deserve it. The club deserves it, the supporters deserve to win the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup – the Treble. It was an amazing achievement.”
