Kevin De Bruyne had a rocky start to the 2023/24 season after being injured in the opening round of the Premier League against Burnley and forced to sit out until the end of the year. During his recuperation, the Manchester City superstar recently appeared in public as a Sky Sports football commentator.
De Bruyne was asked to rank three exceptional Premier League midfielders, including Bruno Fernandes, Martin Odegaard, and James Maddison, to determine who the most creative midfielder worth watching in the Premier League is. Despite being Man City’s archrival, the Belgian star did not hesitate to place MU’s captain first.
De Bruyne explained his decision, saying, “Why is Bruno Fernandes at the top?” He is a creative force. His pitching decisions expose the opponent to numerous dangers. It’s fantastic. Bruno has been consistently great in this regard for a long time.
When given the option, you can pass to someone or shoot the ball yourself from 30 yards out, which is an example of creativity. Those are diverse options, but Bruno always performs admirably.”
This is an unexpected option given that De Bruyne is said to “dislike” MU. Last season, in a video of the 32-year-old midfielder receiving a Manchester United shirt from friends, he even asked if he might burn it.
However, De Bruyne’s willingness to rank Bruno Fernandes as the Premier League’s number one creative midfielder demonstrates both fairness and expression of respect for the opponent. Following Bruno on the list of Man City superstars are Martin Odegaard of Arsenal and James Maddison of Tottenham Hotspur.
