Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has declared that he is “always calm” in response to the latest development about Kylian Mbappe’s future.
WHAT HAPPENED? The French striker was left out of Paris Saint-Germain’s preseason trip to Asia, fuelling speculation that he is quitting the club. Real have been the frontrunners in the battle to sign the 24-year-old for some time, and Perez was asked about it again this weekend.
HOW IT WAS SAID: On his way to vote in Spain’s election, Perez was asked about the club’s interest in Mbappe and replied, “I am always calm.”
With a wry chuckle, he said, “Today, we’re only thinking about voting; it’s a very important issue for Spaniards.”
Mbappe’s contract at PSG is coming to an end, and he has notified the club that he will not exercise the option to extend it for another year. The French champions, on the other hand, have no intention of letting him leave for nothing next summer and have informed him that he must sign a contract extension or be sold this summer.
WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD FOR MBAPPE? During PSG’s preseason tour, the France international will await word on his future.
Saudi Arabia trying to steal Kylian Mbappe from under Real Madrid’s noses – Fabrizio Romano
Kylian Mbappe has dominated football headlines in the last 48 hours following reports that Paris Saint-Germain has chosen to sell its star player after he refused to sign a contract extension with the club.
Mbappe’s current contract expires next summer, and PSG are desperate not to lose him on a free transfer, therefore they’re trying to sell him now in order to recuperate the transfer cost paid to Monaco in 2018.
Several clubs, notably Saudi Arabian clubs, are interested in signing Mbappe. Fabrizio Romano revealed in an exclusive interview with CaughtOffside that attempts will be made to lure the 24-year-old to the Middle East.
“The reality is that Saudi Arabia wants to make a record offer for Kylian, but all parties involved are aware that Real Madrid is Kylian’s preferred destination. Real Madrid is remaining silent, but they are still awaiting PSG’s distinct price tag for Kylian this summer.
“There is currently nothing concrete with Saudi clubs, but they will attempt a world-record proposal for Mbappe. Still, they are aware, as is the rest of the world, that in Mbappe’s consciousness, Real Madrid is the club of choice.”
Real Madrid intends to sign Mbappe next summer, when he will be available for free, but if big events occur in the next weeks, they may be forced to enter the bidding.
