Here’s your Manchester United headlines for the morning of Monday, July 10, 2023.
Erik ten Hag has £30million transfer decision to make
As much as Manchester United went about it in the wrong way, the decision to let David de Gea leave the club was correct.
Some of the mistakes which were made towards the end of his time at the club were inexcusable and he was evidently unable to play out from the back as was required in Erik ten Hag’s set up. MEN Sport understands the Reds are now confident of securing a deal for Andre Onana.
Ten Hag’s former Ajax goalkeeper and current Inter Milan star would fit United’s new system and would represent a coup. However, the Dutchman’s work in goal will not be completed should Onana arrive – he still needs to deal with Dean Henderson.
Neymar drops hint on future after United transfer speculation
Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar has indicated he will stay with the Ligue 1 side for the upcoming season.
The Brazilian’s future has been one of the main transfer window stories of the summer. There has been speculation linking the 31-year-old with leaving Princes Park after six years, with Manchester United one club to be loosely linked earlier this year should Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim take over at Old Trafford. The Manchester Evening News understands that a move would be incredibly unlikely under the current regime.
Unconfirmed reports emerged in May that United had supposedly made contact with PSG over a move for the Brazilian, but there have been no concrete updates from either party since. United boss Erik ten Hag played down that talk, when asked in a press conference towards the end of the season.
Leeds early team news and fitness boost
Leeds United have been handed an injury boost ahead of their pre-season opener against Manchester United next week. The fierce rivals are set to lock horns again when they both kickstart their respective summer schedules with a friendly match in Oslo on Wednesday.
It could be the first time Mason Mount puts on a United shirt, and it is also set to be a memorable day for the Yorkshire side as new manager Daniel Farke takes charge of his first match.
Farke was appointed as the club’s new manager on Tuesday and will be hoping to get a real insight into his squad when they face their fierce rivals.
