COCO 2
When Music Lives Forever, So Do the Stories We Forget
Music never truly ends — it only waits to be remembered.
COCO 2 continues the beloved story years after the unforgettable journey that first united the Land of the Living and the Land of the Dead. Now older and more confident, Miguel Rivera (Anthony González) has grown into a passionate young musician, carrying forward both his family’s legacy and his own artistic voice. He performs for the world, but his heart remains anchored to family, memory, and the quiet guidance of his great-great-grandfather Héctor (Gael García Bernal), whose spirit still walks beside him.

At home, Miguel works closely with Mamá Imelda (Ana Ofelia Murguía) and the Rivera family, honoring tradition while pushing music into new places. Life feels balanced — until one discovery changes everything.
While visiting the Land of the Dead, Miguel stumbles upon a mysterious ancient instrument, hidden away and whispered about only in forgotten songs. Legends claim it predates all known music — a relic tied to the very origin of melody itself. Known as The Symphony of Souls, this power is said to weave together memory, emotion, and sound — capable of connecting the living and the dead in ways never before imagined.
As Miguel uncovers the artifact’s history, he reveals a buried chapter of his own lineage — a truth so old that even Imelda and Héctor never knew it existed. What begins as curiosity soon becomes a calling, pulling Miguel deeper into a world where music shapes destiny.
Along the journey, Miguel meets Zoe (Rosario Dawson), a vibrant and fearless soul with a profound connection to ancient harmonies. Together, they venture beyond the familiar Land of the Dead into a newly revealed realm — a place of echoes, forgotten memories, and melodies that have waited centuries to be heard. Guiding — and sometimes misleading — them is a mysterious figure voiced by Diego Luna, whose allegiance to the Symphony remains unclear.
But the past is never silent.
The return of Ernesto de la Cruz (Benjamin Bratt) sends shockwaves through both worlds. Once exposed and disgraced, Ernesto claims to have changed — seeking redemption through music rather than fame. Yet as the Symphony of Souls begins to awaken, Miguel must confront an unsettling question: can a legacy built on lies ever truly be redeemed, or is forgiveness another performance?
The Land of the Dead itself has evolved — alive with new souls, new rhythms, and new challenges. Music flows through glowing bridges of memory, vibrant cities of color, and landscapes shaped by emotion and remembrance. Yet the Symphony of Souls threatens to upset the fragile balance that keeps both worlds in harmony.
Now Miguel stands at a crossroads.
He must choose between pursuing his growing career and protecting the bond that defines him — between ambition and ancestry, truth and tradition. Unlocking the origin of music could unite generations forever… or fracture the connection between life and death beyond repair.
